Advisor Training

Purpose: Aids advisors in creating and maintaining their local Youth Crime Watch initiative.

Length: One day

Target Audience: Youth Crime Watch site advisors

Curriculum Components:

  • An overview of Youth Development based on Search Institute’s Developmental Asset Model.
  • Tips on how to effectively work with youth.
  • Idea exchange and problem solving around issues of concern.
  • Orientation to Youth Crime Watch publications, videos, other curricula, website and other resources in the national partnership.
  • Discussion concerning techniques to maintain the advisor’s support system or continuing education after returning home

Target Audience:

  • Current or New Advisors
  • School Resource or other Law Enforcement Officers working with Advisors
  • Other volunteers or staff working with Advisors

What do the Participants Take Home With Them?

  • A written overview of the Developmental Asset Model
  • Ideas to utilize with their Youth Crime Watch
  • A network of colleagues
  • A better understanding of how Youth Crime Watch of America can assist them in building successful programs
